West Yorkshire Community Accountancy Service (WYCAS) is a CIO. We support community groups and organisations based in West Yorkshire through a range of financial services.
About the Organisation
The WYCAS Abacus Project is an initiative aimed at connecting individuals with financial skills to third sector organisations that need support with financial management. This opportunity allows participants to build or refresh their financial management skills, enhancing their career prospects.
The Abacus Project: Placements will assist local charities with bookkeeping, maintaining financial records, and preparing financial reports using software like Excel and QuickBooks. Training is provided by WYCAS prior to the placement, then support as needed throughout the placement. Mentoring sessions are also provided as part of the scheme. Support is provided for 4 months.
What are we looking for?
What will you get from us?
The WYCAS Abacus Project seeks participants from target groups, including neurodiverse individuals, single parents, and refugees/asylum seekers, who are experiencing barriers to employment. We are looking for individuals who have experience in bookkeeping, financial recording, or financial management, or those currently studying for a formal qualification such as AAT.
Ideal candidates should demonstrate a commitment to improving their finance skills in a practical, charity-based environment. The project offers participants the opportunity to build or refresh their financial skills and enhance their employment prospects through hands-on experience and tailored support.
Volunteers receive initial training sessions, ongoing support throughout the placement, plus mentoring every 4-6weeks. Reimbursement for travel and subsistence expenses, and a reference upon successful completion of the placement.
