Asquith Court, Sandhall Green,Halifax, West Yorkshire, HX2 0DU
We want to make it possible for people to have a place they’re proud to call home.
About the Organisation
We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire, but that’s not all we do. We’re a landlord who cares and we’re all about making a positive difference in people’s lives so they can thrive.
We’re proud of our communities and we want our customers to feel proud of the community they live in too.
Asquith Court is one of our independent retirement housing schemes. It compromises of 29 self contained flats for people over 55. Our residents love playing games, where they can come together to play a variety of board games, bingo, puzzles and quizzes over a warm drink and biscuits. As a Games Session Volunteer you will be helping the session to run and bringing new games and ideas for the residents to try.
Your role will include;
Purchasing biscuits and milk for the session (You will be reimbursed for this)
Making drinks for participants
Setting up any games or activities.
You can use the selection already at Asquith Court or bring some of your own to use. (Any games need to be straight forward and accessible for all to play.)
Help facilitate the session and keep it on track
Tidy up after the session.
What are we looking for?
What will you get from us?
We would like someone that is passionate, friendly and willing to help out. You need to be able to talk to others and be a friendly face for those attending. Ideally you will be someone who is creative and enjoy playing games and can think of new things to play each week.
This role will really help to improve your confidence and you get to socialise with others. Volunteering is great for your own mental health and wellbeing. You will gain an understanding of how to run and plan community activities. We will also cover your travel expenses so you are not out of pocket when volunteering.
You will be given standard Yorkshire Housing volunteer training, which will include safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and boundaries. You will be given a full site induction from our Activity Coordinator, Anna, and an induction from our Volunteering Development Officer, Rachel.
When do we need you?
Additional Requirements
We would like at least one volunteer to help, but things are always better when they are shared, so we would welcome if you would like to help with a friend.
Due to the nature of the role, as you will be supporting potentially vulnerable members of the community, you must be over the age of 18 if you are doing this on your own. However, we are happy to consider someone over 14 if they volunteer with a parent or guardian, who is over the age of 18.
