Referrals for Food Support

Some food providers require referrals from external organisations or from themselves to be accessed. Contact your local food bank or support centre to find out if they require a referral or not, or use the Support Finder tool above to see what the requirements are for your local provider.

Emergency Food Support

Some food providers will provide emergency food parcels with short notice. Some of them will still require a referral. Contact a food provider using the support provider tool to check if they provide emergency parcels and if they require a referral.

Contact 0808 2082138 for free if you live in England or Wales (open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), to talk to a trained Citizens Advice adviser confidentially. If you are in a financial crisis, and need emergency food support, they could provide you with a referral.

Healthy Start Vouchers

If clients are more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, they may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk.

You can also use your card to collect: Healthy Start vitamins and vitamin drops for babies and young children – these are suitable from birth to 4 years old.

Free School Meals

In Calderdale, children are eligible for free school meals if their parents or guardians get certain support payments.

Free School Meals should be applied for even if the child is entitled to Universal Free School Meals. (In reception, Year 1 or 2).

Healthy Holidays

The Healthy Holidays programme is for children from reception to year 11 who receive Free School meals. There are also some subsidised places for other specific groups of children.

It runs over Christmas, Easter and Summer School Holidays and aims to make sure children enjoy healthy and nutritious meals, whilst keeping a healthy level of physical activity. 

Children who attend develop a greater understanding of food, nutrition and other health-related issues, whilst taking part in fun activities.
