About the Organisation
A vibrant, dynamic cultural space in Sowerby Bridge supporting Community growth and learning.
Fire & Water is about you. Yes, you. The creative, talented and dedicated people of this little patch of West Yorkshire with big dreams. It’s a space for community arts and activism.
It’s also about sustainability and enabling our local economy. Whether that’s providing affordable space for creatives, or through our programme of cultural events that support local providers.
DIY volunteers are the bedrock that will allow the organisation to flourish. This opportunity is also a chance for you to volunteer alongside others with a different set of skills… Are you a joiner who fancies learning a bit about bricklaying? A brickie who'd like to get a few more plumbing skills under your belt? A keen upcycler who wants to learn the tricks of the expert painter & decorator? Then this is where you need to be!
What are we looking for?
What will you get from us?
We're looking for willing and able local people who would love to get involved in making our centre better than ever. Our DIY volunteer projects usually involve general labouring and some very rudimentary joinery skills. We are also building up a bank of more skilled volunteers – electricians, plumbers, joiners and building workers but we need more – many more – to sign up to occasional work sessions. If you'd like to use your skills (and even learn some new ones) we'd LOVE to hear from you!
This is a chance to use your practical know-how and skills to be part of saving an important building in the town.
You could also develop new skills and knowledge whilst helping us restore a much loved space for everyone in the Sowerby Bridge community (and beyond!).
We're a really friendly and hard-working team, connected to and serving the town in many other roles.
