Disclosure & Barring Service Workshop – DBS Barring Functions and the Legal Duty to Refer
Free Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) workshop for those within the voluntary sector, the Barring and Legal Duty to Refer session will provide insight and guidance into the DBS Barring functions and when an organisation must by law refer a staff member or volunteer to DBS following safeguarding concerns.
Key items that will be covered include:
• How DBS and the voluntary sector can work together to safeguard vulnerable groups
• What ‘Regulated Activity’ is
• When a DBS barring referral should be made, including when the legal duty is met
• The three different referral routes
• How to make a good quality referral
• The consequences of not making appropriate barring referrals
• The consequences of being included on one or both Barred Lists
The workshop will be presented live by the DBS Adviser for Yorkshire & The Humber.

Free DBS workshop for those within the voluntary sector, this DBS checks and eligibility session will focus on the different types and levels of DBS check available, when a check can be applied for and what information may be disclosed on a DBS certificate.
Key content explored will include:
- The role of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) within safer recruitment and employment
- DBS checks; available types, levels and ‘workforce’
- What Regulated Activity is
- Regulated Activity provider obligations to refer a staff member or volunteer to DBS when there are safeguarding concerns
The workshop is delivered live by the DBS Outreach Adviser for Yorkshire & The Humber.
