Through the Windrush Compensation Advocacy Support Fund, a total of £1.5 million is available over three years. In Year One, the fund’s purpose is to support established organisations experienced in providing Windrush Compensation advocacy support with the WCS process.
Groups must:
- Have an understanding of the claimant’s culture and background and will support them to articulate their story, including practical help with information and evidence gathering.
- Establish a trusting and positive relationship to ensure claimants feel safe, supported, and able to provide their account in an environment where they are comfortable and at ease.
Eligible costs include staffing costs to support claimants in submitting a viable and eligible claim to the WCS, ad hoc support post-claim submission (up to a maximum of five hours per claim), and time needed for data capture, preparation, and completion of the warm handover call, and administrative costs such as venue hire, marketing costs, equipment and materials, communications campaigns, and accessing and using communication channels.
Where appropriate, advocates will signpost claimants to external organisations for additional assistance.
