Healthy Minds is Calderdale's independent, user-led mental health charity, providing a range of services for local people to support their wellbeing.
About the Organisation
Healthy Minds is a mental health charity which believes in the importance of connecting people with similar experiences of poor mental health to each other so they can support one another to feel better. We believe that people are the experts of themselves and we strive to empower them to make choices over their own lives. We do this by providing support and activity groups in which like-minded people can get together to talk, share and listen.
We are looking for local volunteers with personal experience of mental health difficulties who wish to help and support others with similar experiences in their own community.
Safespace is open on Sunday afternoons from 12.30 'til 3.30 and our Friday drop in is open on 10-12.30pm
These are a warm, supportive social space for people to get together and share stories over a brew.
Volunteers will lend an ear and chat with people, making sure everyone feels welcome and valued.
Speakers of another language are encouraged to apply
What are we looking for?
What will you get from us?
Volunteers should have personal experience of mental health difficulties and be passionate about making a difference to the lives of others living with mental ill-health. You should be warm, empathic, non-judgemental and, most of all, have a terrific listening ear!
Volunteers will get free, fun and informative training about groupwork and helping others in a supporting role. You will work closely with the Healthy Minds project worker to support Safespace and other future developments.
Volunteers will have an opportunity to expand their roles in other areas of the organisation if they wish to.
Volunteers will receive one-to-one support from the project worker and peer support from the rest of the volunteer team.
All expenses are covered.
When do we need you?
Additional Requirements
Please apply as soon as possible
Volunteers with additional needs should talk to the Volunteer Manager and every effort will be made to accommodate these where we can. For all positions, you will need to complete an application form, meet our Volunteer Manager, Cath, for a chat over a brew and complete a full (but fun!) training programme.
For all vacancies, please fill out the form on the website or contact Cath to express your interest:
