Todmorden Information Centre provides information about local things to see and do. We have a wide range of information and brochures covering not only Todmorden and Calderdale but also about other parts of Yorkshire and the rest of England.
About the Organisation
The Todmorden Information Centre has been a cornerstone of the community for 37 years, serving as a vital resource for both locals and visitors alike. Established in 1988, the Centre was born out of a desire to showcase Todmorden's unique charm and character and provide a central hub for information and support.
Over the years, the Information Centre has become an integral part of the town's fabric. It has played a key role in promoting local businesses, supporting community events, and preserving Todmorden's rich heritage. The Centre's dedicated team, comprising a manager, trustees, and volunteers, is passionate about sharing its knowledge and enthusiasm for the town with everyone who walks through its doors.
The Information Centre's commitment to the community extends beyond simply providing information. It serves as a meeting point for local groups, a platform for promoting local initiatives, and a source of assistance for those in need. Whether it's helping a visitor discover hidden gems, assisting a resident with local services, or supporting a community project, the Information Centre is always there to lend a helping hand.
The Information Centre is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. We are looking for Volunteer Ambassadors to cover shifts of either half a day (10:00 am - 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm) or a full day (10:00 am - 3:00 pm).
The primary role of our Ambassadors is to provide cover for the Centre Manager. On average, this equates to 4 or 5 days per month. However, this can increase up to 14 days per month during holiday periods. As a Volunteer Ambassador, you will be the friendly face of Todmorden Information Centre. You will play a vital role in welcoming visitors and residents, providing them with information about local attractions, events, and services.
You will be providing a warm welcome and creating a positive first impression.
Answering enquiries and offering advice and recommendations.
Promoting local attractions and businesses' Sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for the town.
Selling tickets and merchandise:
Maintaining displays and information:
Assisting with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and stock management.

We understand that flexibility is important, and we are happy to work with your availability. We operate a rota system where Ambassadors can indicate their preferred days and times to volunteer.

The Todmorden Information Centre has a step-free entrance; however, due to its position in one of the oldest buildings in the centre of Todmorden, access to the facilities is up a single step. Additionally, some of the flooring is not level. We are happy to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the needs of volunteers with disabilities. Please let us know about any specific requirements you may have, and we will do our best to support you.
Expenses: We can reimburse reasonable travel expenses incurred while volunteering at the Centre.
References: Two references will be required for successful applicants.
