Quality Standard in Volunteering

The Quality Standard in Volunteering is a certificate awarded to organisations that demonstrate their good volunteering practices.

Inspired by the national Investing in Volunteers accreditation, it aims to support and recognise best practice in involving volunteers in voluntary & community organisations across Calderdale.

The Standard is free and valid for three years.

Why Should my Organisation Apply?

The Quality Standard in Volunteering demonstrates that your organisation manages a volunteering programme where volunteers receive a high quality, positive volunteering experience.

It demonstrates to potential volunteers that the organisation values their involvement whilst also helping to minimise potential risks from involving volunteers – either to the volunteer themselves or to your organisation and those that use your service.

The Standard also may provide reassurance to funders that your organisation is professional and delivering a quality volunteer programme.

Once you have achieved the Quality Standard in Volunteering, you can add the logo to any and all publicity that you produce which highlights to others that your organisation is a positive, supportive and worthwhile place for volunteers and volunteering.

The Process

To apply for the Quality Standard in Volunteering, your organisation will need to provide evidence against the 4 key elements that make up the Standard:

Quality & Equality

Onboarding & Training

Value

Support

Part of the evidence required can be provided through our discussions with volunteers, Trustees and staff (where applicable). Support is offered throughout the process by Charlie Johnston, Delivery Manager.

Who Will be the Awarding Body?

The VSI Alliance is the awarding body. Your evidence will be assessed by representatives of the VSI Alliance, Calderdale Council and the VCS in Calderdale. The Assessment Panel meet every 4-6 months to assess applications.
