Tod College Burnley Road Todmorden West Yorkshire OL14 7BX
This is a community learning space for the benefit of the people of Todmorden.
About the Organisation
TLCCH is a community benefit society aiming to secure a sustainable facility for education in the Todmorden College building. Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub (TLCCH) is the community group which now runs Tod College. The building, formerly Todmorden Community College, was transferred to the community benefit society from Calderdale Council in the Spring of 2021. The transfer came after 5 years of campaigning, and fundraising by the community to saved the building from being bulldozed.
The aim of the centre is to create a community space for the benefit of the people of Todmorden. It now offers a rapidly growing range of provision for local people and community groups including opportunities for learning, sports facilities, office, studio, and workshop spaces.
TLCCH aims to provide local young people with the learning and skills they need for jobs in the new green economy. The college has successfully secured National Lottery funds to set up a Climate Challenge College (CCC) as a faculty within Tod College. The CCC will deliver skills training in natural building, agro-ecology and renewable energy systems.
Our volunteer receptionists welcome visitors to the Colllege with a cheery hello and a friendly smile!
Most volunteers have a regular slot for half a day or an evening each week. As well as 'meeting and greeting' our reception team respond to booking enquiries and general requests for information about the College. They answer the phone and monitor the reception email box, received deliveries and sort post, ensure that visitor sign in, and keep an eye on the CCTV.
What are we looking for?
What will you get from us?
You will enjoy this volunteering opportunity if you like meeting people, and are good at communicating and problem solving.
Sometimes it can be quiet (so feel free to bring a book to read!) but now that lots of things are starting to happen the receptionist's role can become quite busy.
This is an ideal role if you want to engage with your local community, gain experience and confidence in a workplace environment and interacting with the public.
We run training sessions for new reception volunteers and you will join an experienced receptionist for a session or two before going it alone. There are always staff in the building to refer to if anything unexpected crops up. References after 6 months.
When do we need you?
